Block Print of the Month: February, Carving for Clarity: Bold Botanicals on Fabric

In this month’s workshop, we’ll take our block printing practice a step further by introducing two-color pattern design.
Using bold botanical motifs, students will explore how layering color transforms a simple block into a dynamic surface design. We’ll focus on spacing, rhythm, and repeat while practicing consistent inking and clean impressions on fabric.
Participants will learn approachable strategies for two-color printing — whether by layering the same block in different colors or combining a primary motif with a smaller accent element. The result is a cohesive, patterned fabric piece with depth and visual interest.
This class is perfect for beginners and returning students alike. No prior experience required, just a willingness to experiment.
All inks, tools, and fabric are included with the registration fee.
Students will need a 4x6 in. carving block for this workshop. Blocks are available for purchase in class for $7.50, or you may bring your own.
This class is designed as a foundational skill-building session and is ideal for beginners as well as those looking to refine their carving and printing technique. Students will leave with a printed fabric piece suitable for a future sewing or home project.
